MATERIALS
NATURAL; HONEST; ENDURING
Materials are at the heart of everything we create. Chosen for their character, integrity, and ability to age beautifully, each material brings its own story to a piece.
From the permanence of marble and the warmth of wood, to the precision of metal and the tactile softness of South African Merino wool, our palette celebrates natural variation, honest craftsmanship, and materials meant to be lived with.
Just Because; material matters.
Full-Grain Leather
The highest grade of natural leather, full-grain retains the original surface of the hide, including its subtle markings and variations. Strong, breathable, and beautifully tactile, it develops a rich patina over time, allowing furniture to become more individual with age and use.
Semi-Aniline Leather
A refined natural leather treated with a light protective finish while preserving much of the hide's softness and character. Supple, durable, and more resistant to staining and fading than pure aniline leather, it offers an elegant balance between luxury and everyday performance.
Cotton
A natural plant-based fiber prized for its softness, breathability, and versatility. Comfortable against the skin and capable of being woven into everything from fine textiles to substantial upholstery, cotton brings an honest, familiar softness to interiors.
Wool
A naturally renewable animal fiber valued for its warmth, resilience, elasticity, and richly tactile character. Its natural crimp helps wool maintain shape and resist crushing, while its insulating and moisture-regulating properties make it particularly well suited to upholstery, rugs, throws, and other pieces designed for everyday living.
South African Merino Wool
South African Merino wool is an exceptionally fine natural fiber produced from Merino sheep raised across South Africa's diverse wool-growing regions. Renowned for its softness, fine fiber diameter, natural crimp, resilience, breathability, and temperature-regulating qualities, Merino creates textiles that feel remarkably soft while retaining the inherent performance of wool.
Its luxury lies in the quality of the fiber itself. The finest Merino fibers are significantly finer than traditional wool, creating a smooth, soft hand without the coarse sensation often associated with wool. Its natural crimp gives the fiber loft and elasticity, helping textiles recover their shape while creating exceptional warmth without unnecessary weight.
For furniture and interiors, Merino also offers remarkable natural performance: it is breathable, insulating, moisture-regulating, naturally resistant to odor, and inherently flame resistant. Combined with the skill involved in raising, selecting, grading, spinning, and working fine Merino fibers, these qualities make premium South African Merino an exceptional material for pieces intended to be both tactile and enduring.
For Just Because, there is an additional significance: it connects contemporary furniture with a material deeply rooted in the South African landscape and its long tradition of wool production.
